Deep and soothing

I'm really really enjoying this!

The intro is just like...a dream, and it just fills your head up with matter (I'm not quite sure what, but I feel it), and then the bass comes in, and just makes you move.

Then, the piano, amazing feeling, I can't quite explain it, but it's the epiphany of uplifting.

Then everything starts coming together more, and I'm awed by the sheer flow of this. Everything works together in harmony, nothing stands out.

It begins to get a tad repetitive, the piano part and the little high plucks in the background, but then the change up at 2:13 couldn't have came sooner.

Yay, panning effects! :3

The pads could've used a little less presence, since you bring in the pad-ish synth on top of it, but the build is nothing short of remarkable! I LOVE THIS!!! ZOMG

I saw this song before, I guess I just wasn't in a reviewing mood. Today I am :D

As the title suggests, I feel like I'm floating/flying over peaks of mountains, with a partially cloudy sky, and rays of sun poking through, hitting the sea nearby, glistening off the surface.

I'm crying, is that okay?! :')

This is awesome, thanks for letting my ears listen to this astounding piece of music.

Keep up the amazing work.

gregaaron89 responds:

Thanks Kazm0, I really appreciate it :D It's great to hear that you connected so much with the song, what you said about it is exactly what I wanted to get across.

The piano is icing on the cake here, I needed something to really top the whole thing off. Actually I lied just now, it started as just the piano and I decided to bury it underneath everything else.

You're right about the repetitiveness I think it's a bit drawn out in places and there's a lot of mud and mixing problems, I'm waiting until I get good monitors to redo the mix on this because it's really really complex. Maybe I can make it flow a bit better.

"I'm crying, is that okay?! :')"

Yes! I think that's the best compliment I could recieve :)

Sounds solid!

The beginning was really cool, with the unique rhythm, and then when the kick comes in, it's just like, DANCE NAO! :P

That's one strong kick I may add, wow.

I'm liking what I hear! Make it longer! lol :D

ARE YOU READY!? xD

Denn-C responds:

Yes me iiiis! Woohoo thnx man:D yeh i was going for a hard kick.. though i think it could be lil more bassy=P
Thans alot man!

G'day m8!

Denn-C;)

I've been meaning to write a review lol

B/c I did fave your song already xD

Nice simple intro, bass filters in nicely, with the kick and hats, reverse crash fits well, the clap is okay, I wouldn't mind a clap with a bit more high end to it, but in the end it works well with the overall mix.

That lead that comes in got me hooked so baddddd lol, and is the reason why I faved this. I sounds like tunnel trance, and it's just memorizing.

1:39 is a nice place to stick some sick padsssss :P loving the chord progression!

2:05 was a nice introduction for the piano, it just floats on top!

OMG 2:36 is so intense, with the low cut filter in of the arp lead, it's sooooo epic.

Maybe less porto on the lead though, and more reverb/release so that it's soooo rich.

3:34 was nice, but I feel that it just didn't have the HUGE hit I was expecting, maybe have a bigger swoosh/build up to the kick. After this, it's really awesome, mad catchy.

I wouldn't mind hearing some backgrounds countermelodies at this point, and I'm not just talking about piano, maybe some soft arps, or peak-controlled/LFO pads. That wound be awesome.

Nice outro, fits with everything.

Keep at it man! You have places to go!!! :P

ZefiroN responds:

Woah thanks man. Not everyday you see a fulfilling review like this, I love it. I have some new tracks coming up where I'm using a new awesome synth I got my hands on, I'll try to use some more different sounds in those. I'm a big fan of soft arps and epic pads too, so I'll probably try to make stuff more GRAND like that in the future.

I'm pretty surprised this track got so much attention, since the main synth is just some 3xOSC's I slapped together. ;D

It's alright man!

First thing I noticed, it's quite loud, the kick is almost piercing through my skull, and almost everything is distorted, the bass is really heavy. You also overuse the crash.

The bass is really blurry, it really muffles everything.

When the lead comes in, it's quite repetitive, every bar is the same pattern...with filters changing it up a bit, and then it changes up again, but not too much.

Then that other lead comes in, and it's cool, but at the same time, it's really fuzzy, and doesn't quite stand out much, since the kick is really overpowering the overall mix.

5/5 (because I <3 you rofl)
7/10 (because it can be soooo much better)

Keep at it man!!! :D

Sacrafan responds:

Thanx.
Its sorta supposed to be repetitive cuz its rave music but i get your flow.
Thank you so much Kazm0
I love you to.
Ill fix those things
EDIT: Hey kazm0, i think your sound is turned up too loud. Is the kick really that harsh?

Not Bad

It's not bad for a first attempt at progressive trance. Here are some guidelines though.

With progressive trance, you don't want to overuse the chorus, you may want to start with a simple/complex drum beat, and then bring in the bass, and then eventually give hints to the leads/pads you may use, and fade them in slowly.

It's also a different style of trance, where you use the space in the music to your advantage. I just learned recently that Maximus doesn't solve everything. In my latest track, I used no compressor in my master mix, and therefore gives more space and allows the overall mix to flow freely in both volume and balance.

I noticed that in your song, it's rather loud, and I fear that I may have been hearing distortion even.

I recomend not using that weird distorted lead that moves around, I think it's some sort of acid sound.

The pad in the background sounds wayyyy too monolized, and just sorta sits in the background, not filling space. Perhaps try stereo seperating it, or adding more mids/highs.

Your kick sounds a bit muddy, with a bit of small-enclosure reverb, I don't think it fits very well with the overall mix.

Also, try panning/EQing your hats, so that they aren't in the center of your mix.

Oh, and you need a name, how about...Beyond You? Just an idea.

unrealdark responds:

If god existed it'd be you!
All those hints and tips you gave are godly valueable!!
I will try to work them out in the finished piece as good as I can.
Thanks SO much for this review, it's the best I've ever had ever since! This is what people call constructive critism, and I need that allot!
Thanks a bunch!

I've always loved your stuff.

And still do!!! :D

This song is amazing, it's so soothing, with the strings, and the guitar, bird calls in the background, and the flute. :3

And then...comes the violin. O_o You know what I mean when it sounds a little...off? I know it's the soundfont that you used, but that's the only thing that I feel needs fixed. Everything else is completely awesome!!! :D I'm proud of you for making such great music in FL in such a short amount of time using the program. ^^

So ya, violin's gotta go, or be replaced. :P

Keep at it Mel!

Phyrnna responds:

Thanks for the review!
I was certainly going for a soothing type of song. Yes, the violin is bad. I had my friend (who plays violin) listen to it and they agreed.

Love it!

The beginning sounds like something out of an intense Japanese cartoon with samurais and ninjas. :P

Then at 00:24 it's all epic with strings and the drum in the background.

Then it starts to fade, sounds like the drummers are moving further away.

Now, for some epic flute solo!!! :D

Really changes the mood. I really like it. I feel like I'm flying over the Woo-Tang mountains and through the clouds and whatnot. :3

Everything about this song makes me think of China, and the hills, agriculture, music, dress, living, festivals, and anything else I haven't mentioned.

Awesome work Mel! I'm quite amazed at how far you've come in making music in FL, I'm really proud of you! :D

Keep up the awesome work!!!

Phyrnna responds:

Hahahah, thanks for the review. I'm glad to hear that you got a tasting of Chinese culture in all it's forms from this song! :D

You're awesome too!

Why did you just turn your song into a remix?

Those vocals are not your own. Nor are they original.

The vocals are from a song off of Fruity Loops, called Hanging On by Blake Reary.

He has a myspace lol

Soooo, either take the vocals out and call it Eclipse, or leave them in and call it Hanging On [Psychron Remix]...it's up to you.

Other than that, the overall song still needs a lot of mastering work. There needs to be more kick/low end. Right now it sounds quite empty without the bass.

Also, the vocals don't really fit your original song, so your best bet would be to dump them.

Your one lead's highs are too high, you need to EQ it so that it's not so ear piercing.

Like I said before though, if you're planning on leaving the vocals in, call it a remix, and give credit to Blake.

jbarnett responds:

1st, I never claimed that I did the vocals OR that they are original. I merely said it HAS vocals. 2nd, I really have no idea how the whole credit giving thing works since this is the first time I've done it. 3rd, I have a non-vocal version of the song (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/list en/224874). 4th, I'm not the best artist in the world... Not to mention that the opinion of one person cannot account for the opinion of the rest. Meaning that if I like something, a lot of people probably don't. 5th, all I have to work with at the moment is the demo version of FL so I cant do what you can. I probably couldn't do as good as you even if I did have the full version lol.

Anyways, I really appreciate you taking the time to review my song (I would change the name but it's too long for the requirements of NG). And I will edit the author comments and give Blake and Iridium their full recognition (since I used Iridium's synths and drums).

Sucker for your voice, as well as the piano! :P

This is full of quality! Although the microphone recording could be better, the song itself screams pro.

You should redo this, it will be the best pop song on NG.

I love the bridge, with the piano's dissonant notes.

The chorus is soooo catchy, I love it!

Keep up the awesome work EBunni!!! :3

Xiratava responds:

Wow, that means a lot to me, coming from one of the artists I consider highly respected on NG.
Yes, I admit the microphone quality is poor; I'm currently in the process of getting a better mike. A better version is planned for release sometime in April, probably the latter half due to other time constraints. Thanks for the comments!

This is for meeeee? :3

I'll write as I listen,

I really like the lead at the beginning. I think it needs more highs, that kind of sound I'd expect to ring just a bit more, it almost sounds a bit muddy.

When the kick comes in, I get a side-chain feeling in the lead, I think it's intentional, it sounds good! The hat has a little too much reverb in my opinion, as well as the clap not having enough mids, and too much reverb...lol I'm being picky..

Woa, transition? Or lack of? ;P

I really like this lead that you bring in, arpping awayyyy. :D

I really really really like the lead that builds on top of the arp!!! It sounds so intense and rich!

Then...the bass comes in, and I don't know what's going on, because everything is sort of all wishy-washy, with the bass taking over the song...mastering is in orderrrr.

Overall, this is pretty damn awesome!!! Quite simple really, but it works!
